What are Neuromodulators (Botox)?
Neuromodulators such as botox are purified proteins that are used to relax muscles. When used in the face, they can be used to treat wrinkles caused by repetitive facial movements.
How Do Neuromodulators Work?
Botox interrupts chemical signals traveling to muscle fibers. They modulate the nervous system in order to command muscles to relax, thus reducing and eliminating unwanted dynamic wrinkles.
Do Treatments Hurt?
Botox is very safe, when injected by a trained medical professional. Botox is also FDA approved! The needles used in botox injections are nearly the smallest needles available. 30 gauge needles are the standard size for botox injections and the smallest needles available are 32 gauge (about the diameter of two strands of hair!) Discomfort caused by a needle of this size is minimal.
What Can I Expect?
At your initial appointment in Thunder Bay, you will meet with your Medical Esthetics Team member and your treatment area will be assessed according to your wants and needs. The final result is generally seen at the two week mark. You may start to see differences before then. If needed, touch ups are done at no cost!
Is There Any After-Care?
Botox does not normally require any recovery time. It is strongly recommended that you avoid exercising for at least 24 hours after injection, as increased blood flow to the injection site can cause undesired results as the botox spreads out further than intended.
