What is Belkyra?

Belkyra is the first and only Health Canada- and FDA-approved injectable treatment that is used in adults to improve the appearance and profile of moderate to severe fat below the chin (submental fat). Specifically, Belkyra is deoxycholic acid.

How Does Belkyra Work?

The active ingredient in Belkyra is deoxycholic acid, a naturally-occurring molecule in the body that aids in the breakdown and absorption of dietary fat. When injected into the fat beneath your chin, Belkyra causes the destruction of fat cells. Once destroyed, those cells cannot store or accumulate fat.

Do Treatments Hurt?

Belkyra is a non-invasive treatment method. It employs the use of a small needle to inject the treatment in a grid-like pattern. Mild discomfort may occur during treatment.

What Can I Expect?

You and your doctor will customize your Belkyra treatment regimen, including how many treatments you need, based on your desired chin profile. Many patients experience visible results in 2 to 4 treatment sessions. During these sessions, your service provider will administer Belkyra into the fat under your chin using multiple injections. Up to 6 treatment sessions may be administered spaced no less than one month apart. Lose your double chin fast!

Is There Any After-Care?

When injected into the fat under your chin, Belkyra causes the destruction of fat cells. Once destroyed, those cells cannot store or accumulate fat. They are gone. After the aesthetic response is achieved, retreatment with Belkyra® is not expected.
